Congratulations! You've Done Nothing Today

Images from Congratulations! You've Done Nothing Today - A brand-building publication for Lazy Oaf celebrating laziness.

Congratulations! You’ve Done Nothing Today focuses on the societal pressure of creative millennials and the somewhat negative views upon this misunderstood generation.

Despite future job prospects being slim, young people can often feel a compulsion to produce work due to a sense of obligation, instead of genuine desire to do so.

The use of social media is strongly ingrained into the younger generation’s identity, and can often amplify this pressure to produce. The influx of new content from those in creative industries makes it seem that everyone’s peers or role models are constantly working.

This can create huge internal tension and anxiety centring on how much work we think we need to be producing, the quality of it compared to others, and can shift our work ethic from creating organically to feeling like we permanently have to in order to be normal.

This publication seeks to subvert these harmful attitudes surrounding workload and the apparent necessity to never stop, instead celebrating those days when we don’t feel like doing anything at all. It is about refusing to feel guilt for taking time to relax, and understanding that it’s neither realistic or healthy to consistently produce.

Lazy Oaf continuously nurtures and supports young creatives through mediums such as open submissions, castings and collaborations. This zine features collaborations with those in various positions within the creative industry, including an illustrator. It focuses on a topic that unifies us all - what we do when we’re lazy, through the use of satire.

Congratulations! You've Done Nothing Today highlights the impact of pressures to keep working on our mental health, and reminds us that however successful we are, we will always have our lazy days, and that this is completely okay.
